Freedom Is Not Enough
I crossed the oceans... I climbed the mountains... I broke the chains... Yet something remained... I chased the horizon through endless years Through victories, failures, laughter and tears I gathered treasures along the way Only to watch them fade away I stood beneath cathedral skies Searching for truth in ancient lies But every answer I thought I'd found Left a deeper question in the ground Is there a road beyond the known? A place where restless souls belong? Freedom is not enough There is a fire I can't explain A nameless longing in my blood Calling me again and again Freedom is not enough Beyond the stars, beyond the sun There is something I cannot touch Something that has no name I saw kings wearing crowns of gold And hermits hiding from the cold Both were prisoners in their own way Searching for dawn inside the grey I walked through cities built on dreams And listened to forgotten screams Every heart was asking why Beneath the same indifferent sky And every time I reached the end Another door would open then Freedom is not enough There is a fire I can't explain A nameless longing in my blood Calling me again and again Freedom is not enough Beyond the stars, beyond the sun There is something I cannot touch Something that has no name Perhaps we're shadows seeking light Fragments of a greater sight Trying to remember what we knew Before the world was born anew Perhaps the answer isn't there In heaven's heights or earth's despair Perhaps the journey is the key And not the place we're meant to be Freedom is not enough The heart still wanders endlessly Through every age, through every dream Across eternity Freedom is not enough Yet still I follow the unknown Toward the silent mystery That calls me home The freedom I sought... Was only the beginning... And what I truly desire... Still has no name...
