# **DON'T BREAK THE WORLD** *Fidget — The Midnight Conservatory* [Intro — delicate music box] Anchor synchronized. Phase aligned. Temporal drift... Probably acceptable. Okay. Three... Two... WRENCH THE FUTURE! [DROP — distorted gothic guitar and organ] [Verse 1] Hit the field and reality bends, Hallway twists where the hallway ends, Moon turns red, then green, then gone, Three different sunsets flicker on! Boots hit dirt from another sky, Something with six wings screams as it flies, Clockwork forest, violet rain— Okay! This is completely insane! But I've got six strings, One anchor tuned, And a temporal field that's coming unscrewed! So if reality wants a fight— TURN ME UP! [Chorus] BREAK THROUGH! PLAY IT LOUD! Rip a hole straight through the crowd! Hit that chord! Shake the ground! Follow Widget's signal down! Bass goes BOOM! Strings ignite! Harmonics tear a path through night! If the timeline wants to brawl— I'LL PLAY LOUDER THAN IT ALL! [Guitar solo — pipe organ answers] [Verse 2] First chord shatters a wall of ice, Second one splits the same room twice, Third sends something huge away— Ha! Okay. I REALLY like this thing. Anchor guitar locks the phase, Music cuts through temporal haze, Every note makes pathways crack, Every power chord pushes back! There's Widget's signal! Getting near! Just gotta blow through— [Lumen, distorted] FIDGET, STOP! [Music cuts] ... Hi, Lumen! Found you! [Lumen] Stop playing. What? [Lumen] Look around you. [Bridge — music box, distant choir] The shattered ice isn't fading. It's melting. The trees I knocked down aren't resetting. Something small is hiding beneath one. Watching me. [Lumen's voice comes through the static.] "These aren't simulations." ... What? "They're preservation fields." Fragments of forests. Fragments of oceans. Fragments of skies. The final living pieces of places that don't exist anymore. Every field is a world. Not a picture. Not a memory. A world. [quietly] And I've been smashing through them. ... Oh. Oh, no. [Verse 3 — restrained gothic pulse] Okay. New rule. No more explosions. That complicates things. The path ahead is closing fast, Widget's signal flickers past, Can't smash walls, can't break the floor, Can't power-chord reality anymore. So think, Fidget. What does music do besides make things louder? ... It resonates. Oh. [Beat returns] I don't have to break the field. I can make it sing. [Chorus — transformed] TUNE IN! DON'T BREAK THROUGH! Find the note the world's tuned to! Match the pulse! Hold it tight! Let the harmonics bend the light! Soft or loud, Fast or slow, Every world can tell me where to go! I don't have to break the wall— I JUST HAVE TO HEAR IT CALL! [Instrumental — guitar becomes melodic] One world hums in D minor. Another answers in five. The frozen forest sings beneath me. They're all alive. Different rhythms. Different keys. Millions of little histories hanging between heartbeats. And somewhere among them... Widget. [Final Chorus] SING OUT! I'M LISTENING NOW! I'll find another way somehow! No more smashing! No more fight! I'll follow every world by light! Anchor low! Harmonics high! Let the lost worlds answer through the sky! I came in here to tear through time— Now every world is part of the rhyme! Hold together! Hold the line! Your little piece of forever isn't mine! I'll find my friends, I'll make it through— WITHOUT DESTROYING WHAT'S LEFT OF YOU! [Outro — music box joins clean guitar] Lumen? "Yes?" Next time I start solving an interdimensional problem with a guitar... "Yes?" Tell me this part first. "I attempted to." ... Oh. Right. How many worlds did I damage? [pause] "Repairable." ... Good. Can we never tell Widget? "She has access to the maintenance logs." Dang it. [soft guitar chord] Okay. Show me the next frequency. Somewhere out there, Widget's waiting. And this time... We knock. [Music box clicks into tune]
