🔊The Bassline Knows Me (Deeper. Darker. Dirtier)🔊

[Intro — whispered] They keep saying: Slow down. Breathe. Be still. ...Or— hear me out— turn it up. [Verse 1] Too fast for the quiet room Too loud for the chair Too many thoughts arriving Like they all booked seats in there Round peg Square world Soft skin Live wire Everybody saying settle down While the whole body wants fire They call the stillness peaceful But sometimes stillness screams Give the charge somewhere to travel Give the rhythm to the feet [Pre-Chorus] Don’t make it smaller Make it wide Give it somewhere Safe to ride [Chorus / Drop] The bassline knows me The bassline knows When the world can’t hold me The bassline knows Deep in the body Down in the bones Turn it up The bassline knows [Instrumental Drop] [Verse 2] Some people find their quiet With a candle and a chair Some find theirs at midnight With the kick drum in the air No better nervous system No right way to come home Sometimes peace is barely breathing Sometimes peace shakes every bone Grief can move in rhythm Charge can learn to dance Give the body something bigger Than the noise inside its hands [Pre-Chorus] Don’t make it smaller Make it wide Give the weather Somewhere to ride [Chorus / Drop] The bassline knows me The bassline knows When the world can’t hold me The bassline knows Deep in the body Down in the bones Turn it up The bassline knows [Post-Drop chant] Not broken - - Electric Not broken Just— [MASSIVE DROP] ELECTRIC [Verse 3 — sparse / spoken-sung] There were rooms that called it too much Too quick Too deep Too strange But the speakers never asked For a smaller range The rhythm doesn’t shame the speed The kick does not complain It meets the body where it is And gives a shape to rain [Bridge — stripped to bass pulse] Maybe calm is not one tempo Maybe peace has many sounds Maybe some of us come home When the bass shakes through the ground No need to earn the silence No need to force the slow Some bodies find their centre Where the wild drums go [Build] Round peg Square hole Soft skin Wild soul Heart fast Feet know Let it move Let it go [Final Chorus / Biggest Drop] The bassline knows me The bassline knows When the world can’t hold me The bassline knows Deep in the body Down in the bones Turn it up The bassline knows The bassline knows me No need to explain Give the grief a rhythm Give the charge a name Not broken - electric Body says— GO [Final instrumental] [Outro — whispered] The bassline knew.
