Castles and Crayons

Just got home It’s been a long day Slaying dragons along the way Keeping the castle safe Filled up the motte with crocodiles to keep bad guys at bay Created my own bay Had to use my buckler to make darkness faint Sword sliced through thickets and made It possible to become great At least for one more day Hey kids, how was your day! What did you say? I used to be sillier when you were younger? If that’s true then what has happened to me At least there is safety Ok kids, after you sleep I’ll clean The castle hallways Dishes, bridge draw chains It’s been years since I’ve sat down to just chill and think Maybe my kids are right, I have changed The armor on me has become a part of me I even sleep With it on. Tonight I’ll take my suit off What’s this that I see? It has too much dust on it, but can it be? Art work from when I was a child? Maybe there is something to it I’ll just take some time to finish coloring it Man, I am tired, I’ll just close my eyes and go to sleep [instrumental] Where am I (Where am I) Hello? (Hello?) Echo! (Echo!) This can’t be real But I’m awake When I slap my face It feels like the real thing When I look around I see wild trees Lines everywhere Formed around me like spaghetti It reminds me of my children’s paintings Am I inside of their artwork? It can’t be Hey! A familiar thing I haven’t seen you in a while My childhood hero I used to draw you when no one would listen to me And here you are What have you been up to all of these years? (Just chilling here, it’s been boring without you) What do you mean? (When you went to high school you stopped drawing, stopped imagining) (My adventures stopped. Everything went dark. The light went away. I was left under piles of other papers never to see the light of day) (But other young ones found me and added colors around me) (They drew trees, rivers, a sky, a sun to keep me warm) I thought you were not real? Imagination by definition can’t bring things to life beyond what has already been. You were just a thought in my head! (Yes, but your thoughts were brought to life by the stroke of your pen) (Your will to live was granted to me) (But when the cares of growing up grew it choked the life out of the seed) (Thorns replaced greenery) (The garden is now a machine) (It needs fuel to breath, instead of light it hums in the night) (Your worry to protect others you love has overcome your ability to love right) Dang bro. You might be hitting it home. You may be right. How do I overcome this homie? (I can’t tell you. You will have to see for yourself) Then all of a sudden A whirlwind overtook me and I felt the ground rumble The room began to spin I was thrown to the wall Centrifugal force from within Then the room stopped And I stood up slowly Restored my sight and I couldn’t believe what was before me Myself in the past Drawing my hero at last A knight in shining armor Powerful Standing against darkness Serving others Ready to take on the world And already has Saved the kingdom from the terror of dragons Was not afraid of any problems And in the face of adversity he laughed at it I looked down and saw that he was drawing me The person I had strived so hard to become Was always me And I saw the look of myself as I drew Not a care in the world Not worrying about tomorrow because tomorrow had something special In that it could worry about itself And so my inner child within me said hello I never left Welcome back
