We Were Here

[Intro] Before the lights go out... Before the story ends... Remember this. [Verse 1] We were young enough to think we'd live forever Old enough to know that nothing lasts We took the long way through the stormy weather Made a future out of pieces of the past We lost some friends along the road We lost some dreams we couldn't hold But every scar became a story Every fall became a road [Pre-Chorus] And if tomorrow takes it all If every photograph fades I'll still remember how we felt When we were standing here today [Chorus] We were here We were alive We lost some battles But we survived If tomorrow takes everything Let the whole world know one thing We were here We were here [Verse 2] We had nights when we were laughing till the morning Had days when getting up was hard to do We made mistakes and called them growing We said goodbye to people we once knew But every heartbeat left a trace Every stranger, every face Every road that brought us somewhere Every road that changed our ways [Pre-Chorus] And if the years erase the names If the memories disappear There was a moment in this life And for that moment we were here [Chorus] We were here We were alive We lost some battles But we survived If tomorrow takes everything Let the whole world know one thing We were here We were here [Verse 3] So turn the music up a little louder Let the night become a memory Raise your hands for every dream that found us Raise them for the ones we couldn't keep We're not promised another day So let's not waste the one we've got We don't need forever We just need this moment while it's ours [Bridge] Maybe we're not meant to last forever Maybe we're just passing through But if we leave a little light behind us Then maybe that's enough to prove That we loved That we tried That we fell That we climbed [Build] And when the last light disappears And when the final song is gone Let the silence say our names... [Final Chorus] We were here We were alive We lost some battles But we survived If tomorrow takes everything Let the whole world know one thing We were here We were here We laughed We cried We lived We tried We were here We were here [Outro] No perfect ending... No perfect life... Just one beautiful proof That we were here.
