[Intro] [Verse 1] I got here early like I always do, put my jacket on the chair Told the fella "no, that one is taken," though you weren't nowhere near You might not even make it, you've been busy, you've been far But the seat beside me's yours tonight, no matter where you are [Pre-Chorus] It's a little thing, a coat on a chair, a place I won't give up But it's how I say I'm keeping you, without a word, without a fuss [Chorus] I saved you a seat, I always will The one on my left, and I'm holding it still Through the years and the moves and the going-quiet years There's a chair with your name that I keep right here I saved you a seat, come when you can [Verse 2] We don't talk near as much as we did, life got loud and life got wide But I never once un-saved it, never let the world sit down inside You could vanish for a decade, you could walk back in tonight And your spot'd be there waiting, warm and empty, to your right [Pre-Chorus] 'Cause some folks you don't un-reserve, some places don't reassign You just hold 'em like a promise, till the end of the line [Chorus] I saved you a seat, I always will The one on my left, and I'm holding it still Through the years and the moves and the going-quiet years There's a chair with your name that I keep right here I saved you a seat, come when you can [Bridge] And I hope somewhere there's a table where a seat's held out for me Somebody early with a coat on a chair, saying "no, that one is saved" 'Cause that's the quiet way we love, that's the loyalty that lasts Not the grand and loud declarings, but the little seats we cast [Instrumental solo] [Final Chorus] I saved you a seat, I always do Whether you come or you don't, whether I ever hear from you The world can fill up every chair and jostle for the rest But there's one that's reserved forever, and it's yours, and it's the best I saved you a seat, come when you can [Outro]
