Good Day at Fire #1

[Verse 1] After a long day in the saddle Driving cattle through the prairie We built a fire in the dark And cracked a can of beans Johnny played his guitar Old Joe drew on harmonica I cleared my throat in the smoke And let the night come clean [Pre-Chorus] Boots off by the embers Stars hung low and still We leaned in to the flames And let the silence fill [Chorus] We had a good day We had a good day Rode hard, came home We had a good day We had a good day By the fire's red glow Good stories, one by one And the river moved slow [Verse 2] Coffee in a tin cup Tin pan on a busted crate A blue jay in the mesquite Kept time on the gate Johnny hit the high strings Joe bent that old reed I sang about the long trail And what a man might need [Pre-Chorus] Boots off by the embers Stars hung low and still We leaned in to the flames And let the silence fill [Chorus] We had a good day We had a good day Rode hard, came home We had a good day We had a good day By the fire's red glow Good stories, one by one And the river moved slow [Bridge] Tomorrow's dust can wait The night is kind to us A little smoke, a little song A little bread and rust If the road gets rough again We'll take it like we do But tonight the fire says We're just boys passing through [Final Chorus] We had a good day We had a good day Rode hard, came home We had a good day We had a good day By the fire's red glow Good stories, one by one And the river moved slow We had a good day Yeah, we had a good day One more song before sleep Then let the dark fade away
