J Boyz - Friend In The Room

V4.5+

The night it was slow, And the lights they were dim. I sat in the chair, Feeling hollow within. I sat there with smoke, I sat there with haze. The clock on the wall Seemed to melt in its ways. Then knock on the door, A faint sound in the gloom. I rose from my seat It was Friend in the Room. He grinned ear to ear, With his hoodie pulled tight. He said, “Come on, brother, Let’s laugh through the night.” We joked and we drank, We spun round the floor. We sang to the ceiling, We beat on the door. He lifted a bottle, He spun in the chair. I swore he was living, I swore he was there. But shadows grew longer, The ceiling bent low. I blinked and I swore But he still wouldn’t go. He pounded the table, He clapped out a beat. I laughed through the tears, With the ghost at my feet. Two figures stepped forward, Their faces were gone. They danced with my friend Till the colors spun on. The house filled with rhythm, The lights spun in tune. I shouted, “Stay longer! Don’t leave me so soon!” But the dawn it crept in, With its cruel, quiet light. My friend grew transparent, He faded from sight. I reached out to hold him, But nothing was near. Just bottles and ashes, And echoes of cheer. The chair sat there empty, The smile was erased. The laughter was silence, The room was disgraced. I fell to my knees, And I whispered his name. But the silence just echoed, And answered with shame. The door never opened, No footsteps, no sound. Only me in the wreckage, And grief all around. The beat grew too heavy, It shattered the tune. And I screamed in the silence, For Friend in the Room. But silence stayed still, Like a stone in my chest. I realized at last He was laid to his rest. [Outro] And I sat in the house, With the ashes and gloom. Alone with my mind, No Friend in the Room.
