The Peacock🦚 FirešŸ”„ Dance🩰

V6

[Intro – Spoken, raspy female voice] Ladies and gentlemen, gather around, The peacocks are dancing all over town! One's got the matches, one's got the flair, And nobody seems to notice the smoke in the air! [Verse 1] Mitch struck a match on a summer day, While the fire ban signs said, "STAY AWAY!" Candace came dancing in her dancing shoes, Singing, "Honey, have you heard the political news?" Feathers flying, egos high, Little clouds of smoke rising into the sky. Four firefighters came rolling down the street, While the peacocks kept time with their fancy feet! [Chorus – Sassy female lead, gang vocals] Oh, dance, little peacocks, dance! Spin around the fire in your political pants! Silence is golden, but what color is noise? When the rules apply to everybody but the boys! Squawk to the left! (SQUAWK!) Strut to the right! (STRUT!) Funny how the feathers disappear from sight! Oh, dance, little peacocks, dance! Everybody loves a second chance! [Verse 2] Candace saw a headline, laughed out loud, Sent her little message to the online crowd. But when the backyard fire made the news, We couldn't find a peep about those smoky blues. She'll ruffle her feathers when a headline drops, While Mitch does the shuffle when the fire truck stops. One says, "Oops!" and the other says—well, Not a word that we've heard, but time will tell! [Chorus] Oh, dance, little peacocks, dance! Spin around the fire in your political pants! Silence is golden, but what color is noise? When the rules apply to everybody but the boys! Squawk to the left! (SQUAWK!) Strut to the right! (STRUT!) Who's gonna put out the fire tonight? Oh, dance, little peacocks, dance! Watch those feathers and your underpants! [Bridge – Slow, theatrical piano] Now the rules are the rules, Or so we've been told, And accountability's worth Its weight in gold. But the peacocks keep dancing, With their heads held high, While a little cloud of smoke Goes drifting by. And somebody whispers, "Don't you smell that smoke?" The piano man grins, "Well, ain't that a joke!" [Breakdown – Drums stop, spoken dialogue] "Hey, Mitch! What's burning?" "Just a little yard work!" "During a burn ban?" "Oh..." "And Candace, what do you think?" (Dead silence. A cricket chirps.) "Well, would you look at that! For once, the peacocks ain't squawking!" [Final Chorus – Full brass, stomping drums, gang vocals] Dance, little peacocks, dance! Strike up the band for the circumstance! Silence is golden, but what color is noise? Depends who's playing with the political toys! Squawk to the left! (SQUAWK!) Strut to the right! (STRUT!) Better keep those matches out of sight! Dance, little peacocks, dance! Come on, everybody, do the FIRE BAN PRANCE! [Outro – Piano glissando, female laughter] One little spark, Four firefighters, Two fancy peacocks, And a whole lotta satire! (Spoken) "Well, bless their little feathers..." [Final gang shout] PUT THAT FIRE OUT! (Fire bell rings. Piano crashes. End.)
