[Title: YOU ARE STILL HERE] [Intro] The room is loud. The mouth is hot. Curses in the air while this is being written. And you say— I AM ABUSING YOU. [Silence] I hear the charge. I will not mock it. I will not put your worst words on the hook and call it worship. And I will not call myself righteous just because I believe I told the truth. Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? [Silence] Put my words next to the Book. Put my ways there too. If I was wrong— CORRECT ME. If I was cruel— SHOW ME. If I used truth as a club— LET THE LIGHT FIND ME TOO. But if the Book stands— LOOK PAST ME. [Verse 1] The wound can talk when the light hits it. And sometimes the messenger can speak too hard. I said— that pattern is hurting us. You heard— I hate you. Those are not the same sentence. But tonight they may feel the same in your chest. So I will not answer a curse with a curse. And I will not answer your pain by telling you what you must feel. [Silence] When the storm is quieter— we can test the words. Not mine against yours. BOTH AGAINST THE LIGHT. And if we cannot do that tonight— the Book can wait one night without a war. [Chorus] LOOK UNTO JESUS. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. LOOK UNTO JESUS. Who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, DESPISING THE SHAME. I am not asking you to look unto me. And I will not hide behind Galatians if I have done you wrong. LOOK PAST ME. TO HIM. [Verse 2] If it was done to you— do not confess a crime you did not commit. If it was your sin— do not decorate it. And that rule belongs to me too. If I sinned against you— I must tell the truth. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [Silence] No false guilt. No false innocence. THE TRUTH. [Verse 3] Speaking the truth in love— not the truth as a club, not love as a lie. I am not the way. I am not the truth. I am not the life. Jesus saith— I am the way, the truth, and the life. [Silence] So don't make the messenger your Saviour. And messenger— DON'T MAKE YOURSELF THE TRUTH. [Chorus] LOOK UNTO JESUS. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. Put my words next to the Book. Put my conduct there too. Then both of us answer to Christ. [Bridge] I am weak. I have limits. I cannot repent for you. And you cannot repent for me. I cannot wake you by dying at you. My days are His. [Silence] I DID MY BEST. But even my best must answer to truth. God— HELP ME. God— HELP HER. God— HELP US. [Breakdown] Flesh said— IT'S OVER. Fear said— THERE IS NO MORNING. And still— LOOK. YOU ARE STILL HERE. [Hard Silence] YOU LIAR! [Silence] Not her. Not him. THE LIE that said the story was finished. [Final Chorus] THE CURE FOR SHAME IS NOT YOU GETTING SHINY. IT IS JESUS GETTING YOUR EYES. And the cure for being wrong is not winning the argument. COME TO THE LIGHT. LOOK. LIFT. LIVE. YOU ARE STILL HERE. The morning did not skip you— even after a bitter night. [Outro] I will not sing your curses back to you. I will not pretend you weren't livid. I will not dismiss the words— YOU ARE ABUSING ME. And I will not settle that charge with a song. [Silence] Bring it to the light. Look past me. Look unto Jesus. [Long Silence] JESUS IS THE LORD.
