FREE VERSE POETRY FIRE Fire can have many uses Often used for cooking food Also, for heating homes Spiritual fire can warm a heart Or can burn up an unwanted habit Yet, it can do many harmful acts too It can burn up a building or home It can turn a forest of trees to ashes And it can blacken men's hearts As anger and hatred do their damage Fire is an element only the Creator Knows how to use properly In His wise and large heart He can bring a man to use it with love To kindle a heat that will lighten men's woes Let us use His fire to cleanse away the dross To clothe us with the pure light of love To bring the warmth of kindness home Where a bright flame may always shine And bring out the best in us who love Him
