V5.5

[Based on my Road Beyond the Stars story... SatinRain's piano piece triggered the character's memories in my mind.] [I know few follow that story any more, but these characters are real to me.] [The elven sorceress back story is the one man she fell in love with fell to the darkness... the thing that created the story... power, hunger, control... she tried she prayed... but she, as the most powerful leader of their kingdom had to sacrifice her heart to save her lands. The memory of having to kill her one true love, with her own hands - eye to eye- having fallen to darkness, to save her kingdom haunts her to this day... the last look he gave her... like he remembered... at the end. Haunts her.] [There are several tracks devoted to this memory. Powerful emotions to me.] [When my own tracks make me tear up cause I know the story... her internal heart break...sniffle] [Another Song of Her Pain - More Story of What She had to do... to sacrifice... i might be tearing up listing to it again, Dang it.] [Road Beyond the Stars - Past Memories - Sorceress - The Crown I Could Not Save - https://suno.com/song/a99b0ac5-9af6-42be-849c-eea770037fe6] [For anyone that DOES follow the Road Beyond the Stars music... know this is why she is quiet and reserved as a member of the party... not just the cliche elven sorceress. She carries deep emotional scars. She felt the first horrors of the story before they manifested. She gave the first grave sacrifice of the heart before it manifested in their world She just does not share with the party... yet ] [Intro — soft muted baby grand piano, empty concert hall reverb] [Verse 1 — elegant female vocal, quiet and trembling] I knew your name before the darkness Learned to wear you like a crown You were sunlight through the branches You were spring on sacred ground Once, your hands could calm the starlight Once, your voice could still the sea Once, I thought the gods had made you Just to stand beside me [Verse 2 — fragile, intimate] Then the shadows found your hunger Then the throne became your prayer I watched mercy leave your body Like a bird escaping air Every vow we spoke in moonlight Turned to ash upon your tongue And the man I loved went silent Long before the war was won [Pre-Chorus — piano slightly rising] I begged the night to spare you I begged my heart to lie But kingdoms fall when love is blind And someone had to choose the knife [Chorus — emotional but restrained] I killed the one I loved To save the land that made us I broke my only heart So the dawn could still wake us And though the world still sings Of the crown I did not lose No song will ever tell them What it cost to stop you [Verse 3 — sorrowful, more personal] I remember how you held me By the river, pale with stars You said time could never take us You said death was not that far Now I live where years are endless And your ghost is never old Every century still finds me With your blood upon my soul [Verse 4 — raw confession] Do you know I kept your letters? Do you know I speak your name? Not as curse and not as warning But as love I could not save I have stood in courts of crystal I have heard them call me brave But I was just a woman weeping At the edge of your grave [Pre-Chorus — quiet anguish] I saw the dark inside you I saw what you became But when my magic struck your heart I still whispered your first name [Chorus — fuller, aching] I killed the one I loved To save the land that made us I broke my only heart So the dawn could still wake us And though the world still sings Of the crown I did not lose No song will ever tell them What it cost to stop you [Bridge — stripped piano, almost spoken] If I could find you before the fall Before the blade, before the throne Before the power hollowed out The gentle man I used to know I would hold your face between my hands And beg you not to cross that line But love cannot command the dark And grief cannot reverse time So I carry both forever The mercy and the sin The kingdom that I rescued And the love I buried in it [Final Chorus — heartbreaking, controlled tears] I killed the one I loved To save the land that made us I broke my only heart So the dawn could still wake us But I still dream of you As you were before the flame And every time the moonlight falls I almost hear your name [Outro — fading piano, empty hall ambience] I knew your name before the darkness I loved you before the war And though I saved a thousand lives I lost the one I lived for
