THE HITCHHIKER SMILES [Verse 1] Stopped for gas at half past one, The old man said, "Don't drive until the morning comes." I laughed it off, Filled the tank, Didn't notice The figure by the bank. [Pre-Chorus] The wind went still... The crickets died... Something watched... From the other side... [Chorus] There's someone Walking behind my headlights, Never getting closer, Never falling behind. Every mile I leave, He finds. Every road I take, He's already there. [Verse 2] Passed an old church, Windows gone. The bell still rang, Though nobody pulled the rope. Saw my face In the rear-view glass... It smiled... Before I did. [Pre-Chorus] Don't look back... Don't slow down... Some roads... Remember names... [Chorus] There's someone Walking behind my headlights, Never getting closer, Never falling behind. Every bridge I cross, He's already there... Waiting... [Bridge] The radio Starts speaking With my own voice... It says... "You should have stopped." [Guitar Solo] (Expressive slide guitar that slowly becomes eerie and dissonant before bursting into a blazing blues solo.) [Final Chorus] Now he's Walking beside me... No footprints... No shadow... When the morning comes, There's only one set of keys... But... Two doors... Close. [Outro] If you see A man Walking On Highway Nine... Don't stop. Because... He already knows... Your name.
