[Verse 1] You wore that grin like a paid disguise Paint on your face, but it never fit your eyes Rang that bell when the room got cold Selling fake magic, trying to act so bold I saw the seam in your paper crown Every joke you told just let you down You tripped on pride in those oversized shoes Now the whole damn room sees through you [Pre-Chorus] And I laughed too loud Just to stay above You kept spinning around For a little applause and love [Chorus] Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now Hey, clown, take your bow You can’t hide behind the crowd You can spin, you can shout But the red paint’s running out Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now [Verse 2] Backstage mirror, cracked in half You kept rehearsing your biggest laugh Pocket full of confetti and broken lines Trying to sell me all your alibis But the spotlight burns through cheap disguise Every little trick gets televised You wanted cheers, you wanted noise Now you got truth with a thousand eyes [Pre-Chorus] And I laughed too loud Just to stay above You kept spinning around For a little applause and love [Chorus] Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now Hey, clown, take your bow You can’t hide behind the crowd You can spin, you can shout But the red paint’s running out Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now [Bridge] No more funny face No more perfect fall When the lights go down You’re just a man after all No more laughing mask No more magic show When the curtain drops There’s nowhere left to go [Final Chorus] Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now Hey, clown, take your bow You can’t hide behind the crowd You can spin, you can shout But the red paint’s running out Hey, clown, take your bow The whole room knows you now
