I pour my soul into this well Day after day, the water fell The ripples still, no voices here My silence lasts another year I give and give until I'm dry No answers from the copper sky The hours drift, the minutes burn I give it all but nothing returns My hands are raw from reaching out Through empty rooms and walls of doubt The clock face mocks with every turn These gifts I give that won't return The faithful dog still guards his post While masters sleep behind closed doors I stand here at the garden gate With offerings that come too late The morning light reveals again These scattered seeds upon the plain Each one a hope that never learned Why all I gave was not returned I'll plant these dreams in different soil And let them rest beneath the ground Perhaps someday they'll find their way When I have learned to walk away
