(Instrumental) (Verse 1) The neon lights are fading in the rear-view mirror The city's getting quiet, but the air is clear Windows rolled down, feeling that summer heat A soft breeze rushing in, tapping to the beat (Pre-Chorus) No destination, nowhere we have to be Just the open road stretching out endlessly The clock strikes twelve, the world is fast asleep And we’ve got promises that we don't have to keep (Chorus) Midnight drive in summer, chasing down the dark Underneath the stars, waiting for a spark Headlights cutting through the velvet sky Just you and me as the night goes by Yeah, a midnight drive in summer Where the feeling never dies (Verse 2) Streetlights flashing like a slow-mo film Quiet radio playing something soft and chill Your hand out the window, riding on the wind Wishing this moment would never have to end (Pre-Chorus) No destination, nowhere we have to be Just the open road stretching out endlessly The clock strikes twelve, the world is fast asleep And we’ve got promises that we don't have to keep (Chorus) Midnight drive in summer, chasing down the dark Underneath the stars, waiting for a spark Headlights cutting through the velvet sky Just you and me as the night goes by Yeah, a midnight drive in summer Where the feeling never dies (Electronic piano solo) (Bridge) The ocean air is calling from a mile away We’re running from the shadows of yesterday In this cool, dark blue, everything feels right Lost together in the middle of the night (Guitar Solo / Instrumental Break) (Chorus) Midnight drive in summer, chasing down the dark Underneath the stars, waiting for a spark Headlights cutting through the velvet sky Just you and me as the night goes by Yeah, a midnight drive in summer Where the feeling never dies (Outro) Midnight drive... Just you and me... In the summer night... Fading into the dawn.
