The Castle Of Corbenic

Through the mist Beyond the river Past the fields where no bird sang There appeared A tower of silver And a bell without a hand No road marked the way before it No gate stood open to the plain Yet Galahad rode toward the silence And the castle Spoke his name Candles burning in empty chambers Footsteps move without a sound Golden vessels line the tables Shadows bound upon the ground Then a procession crossed the darkness A bleeding spear was carried high And behind it Veiled in radiance Came a light No mortal eye Could hold steady Between the worlds And what lies beyond Corbenic Where every bell is strong No sword can open What faith alone may see No king may command The mystery Galahad entered the inner chamber No banners hung No trumpets called There the wounded king was waiting There the sacred vessel shone He saw the question behind the suffering He saw the wound beneath the crown And what no knight before had spoken Was finally Given sound Whom does the grail serve? The king The land The broken The one who cannot heal Then the hall began to tremble Dust fell softly from the stone Water moved beyond the windows Green returned where none had grown And the grail rose from the altar Not as treasure, not as prize But as mercy made visible Before The living eyes Corbenic The hidden doors unfold Corbenic The wound begins to close No conqueror No victor No glory Carved in stone Only grace Within the chamber And a king No longer alone By morning The castle was gone But the road Remained
