I Wanted to Be Heard. I Found My Voice

Last fall, when everything was breaking, And the hurt was running deep, I wanted a chance to tell them Of the love I'd tried to keep. I wanted to answer accusations, To share my side of what was true. To be part of the conversation, And let them hear my point of view. But the conversation went on without me, My voice was shut away. And all the love I longed to share Had nowhere else to stay. Then I started writing music Putting memories into song. Finding words for all the feelings That I'd carried for so long. I'd always talked my feelings through, But this time that door was closed. So I poured my pain into melodies, Feelings I'd held inside became exposed. I wasn't looking for a new beginning, Just a way to let the hurting go. But something beautiful was stirring, A voice I hadn't known began to grow. I wanted to be heard, But I found my voice instead. Found a way to sing the message That was living in my head. I wanted to be heard, But I found so much more. I discovered songs worth singing, And a voice I'd not heard before. One song led to another, Then another took its place. Some were born from painful memories, Some from unexpected grace. Then the songs began to change me, As the melodies took flight. What began as searching for an answer Filled my world with peace and light. I wanted to be heard, But I found my voice instead. Found a way to sing the stories That were living in my head. I wanted to be heard, But I found so much more. I discovered songs worth singing A voice I'd never had before. Last Fall there were just four Important hearts I wanted to reach. But music opened doors beyond them Important lessons ready to teach. Now songs that started in my sorrow Are helping other people through. I thought I knew who needed them, But God had a larger view. I don't decide who listens, Or which hearts understand. I simply offer what I'm learning, But don't make them listen on demand. I choose to keep on singing, Let the music carry through. Share lessons I've learned through living With those who might need them too. I wanted to be heard, I found my voice instead! Now there's music in the memories, And new songs waiting up ahead. I wanted understanding, But I found a gift so free I wanted to be part of the conversation, The songs have given that voice to me! I started with a heart full of hurt, And feelings I could hardly bear. The music gave me something Far beyond what got me there. I wanted to be heard, I found my voice along the way. For those who want to listen, I've still got more to say.
