Far from the glory of war, a lone soldier looks back on the fields, rivers, and people he left behind, finding comfort in memories of home while facing an uncertain fate beneath a foreign sky. Through atmospheric guitars and introspective lyrics, the song explores memory, mortality, and the enduring connection between a person and the place they call home.‼️ ############################## [Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] I was raised where the green hills roll Where the hedgerows lean and the church bells toll Where the rain would fall on the old stone lanes And the blackbirds sang through the windowpanes The river knew every secret name Every summer dream, every childhood game And though the years have carried me far I still see home beneath every star [Pre-Chorus] Now the sea lies wide behind me And the dawn feels strange and new Yet every step across this earth Still carries traces of you [Chorus] If I should fall in a foreign field tonight Remember me in the morning light For every road I walked at home Still guides my heart wherever I roam And if the earth should claim my name The wind will carry it just the same For part of home remains with me In every breath, eternally [Verse 2] The nights grow long beneath distant skies And questions linger behind brave eyes But the memory of familiar shores Still waits beyond these troubled wars I hear the laughter I left behind The voices carried upon the wind The scent of rain on the autumn ground The simple things that made me found [Pre-Chorus] Though tomorrow hides its answer Beyond the reach of mortal sight I hold those moments close within me As I face the coming night [Chorus] If I should fall in a foreign field tonight Remember me in the morning light For every road I walked at home Still guides my heart wherever I roam And if the earth should claim my name The wind will carry it just the same For part of home remains with me In every breath, eternally [Instrumental Bridge] [Spoken] If these are my final hours… Do not remember the uniform. Remember the laughter. The rivers. The fields. The dreams that came before the war. [Final Chorus] If I should sleep beneath a foreign sky tonight Let memory keep the lantern bright For every path that led me here Was built by those I held most dear And though my footsteps fade away The love of home will always stay A quiet flame that time can’t steal Burning beyond this foreign field [Spoken Outro] If these are my final hours... I do not think of glory. I think of rain on old stone streets. The smell of summer fields. The sound of voices I may never hear again. ############################## The Soldier by Rupert Brooke If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
