I took a train ride To get my mind right. Nothing but a twenty in my pocket And some peace of mind. Played roulette with the directions Like I flip through old record collections. The tracks stretch awhile, Few bends ahead. Head in the clouds, Higher by the mile. Time keeps drifting, Still too fast. Sitting here wondering Where this ride will land. I took a train ride To get my mind right. Nothing but a twenty in my pocket And some peace of mind. Played roulette with the directions Like I flip through old record collections. The conductor punched A little hole in fate. Didn’t ask questions, Didn’t hesitate. Sun hit the glass Like a pinball light. Whole damn map Looking counterfeit. Pocket held twenty. Heart held less. Both spent easy, Neither impressed. Crossed another county Without a plan. Seemed like a good one From where I sat. Maybe that’s the trick Quit chasing the destination. Let it roll… Another mile. Let it roll… Stay awhile. Twenty bucks. Peace of mind. Rest’ll catch me Down the line.
