I used to think silence meant peace… That if nobody shouted… nothing was broken. I was wrong. Some rooms are quiet because everyone inside them has learned what not to say. And some people… They don’t lie. Not exactly. They just place the truth somewhere convenient… Turn it slightly… Dim the lights… And wait for you to doubt your own eyes. I know that now. I know apologies can sound beautiful… and mean nothing. I know regret can arrive without change. I know someone can miss you… and still not deserve to find you again. That’s the strange part. Missing someone doesn’t make them good for you. Love doesn’t prove innocence. Memory doesn’t prove love. And forgiveness… Forgiveness doesn’t always mean opening the door. Sometimes… it means locking it without anger. I spent too long looking for reasons. Your childhood… Your fear… Your loneliness… The things you never learned… I collected them all like evidence. Placed them carefully beside the damage. As if pain could cancel pain. It can’t. A wound can explain why someone bleeds… It doesn’t explain why they chose to bleed on you. So… I stopped asking what made you this way. I started asking what being near you was making of me. That question… was harder. Because I had become quieter. Smaller. Careful. Always translating myself into a language you wouldn’t punish. And somehow… I called that patience. I called it understanding. I called it love. Funny… the names we give things when the truth would force us to leave. But I left. Not dramatically. No final speech. No shattered glass. No beautiful goodbye. Just one day… I understood that staying was another way of abandoning myself. So I chose differently. You can keep your explanations. Your almost-apologies. Your carefully edited memories. I don’t need you to become the villain. And I don’t need to become the victim. I only need to remember… I was there. I saw it. I felt it. And that is enough. Maybe you will change. I hope you do. Really. But hope… is not an invitation. And mercy… is not a key. Some doors should remain closed… Not because of hatred. Not because of revenge. But because peace… real peace… sometimes begins with a sound you barely notice. A lock… turning. Mila Yıldız. All rights reserved. ━━━━━━━ † ━━━━━━━
