We learned the rules by watching, not asking why or how, Just followed what was handed down as if it was right somehow. [Pre-Chorus] Was it written in the margins? Or did we miss the signs? You don’t notice what is slipping, Till you’re runnin' outta time... [Verse 2] I’ve seen people lose direction, chasing what they swore they earned, Trading time for small protection, just to watch the tables turn. They said "It’s all perspective", depends on where you stand. Well, it don’t help you much at all when you reach out with empty hands. [Pre-Chorus] So was it fate or bad instruction? Or choices made in doubt? You don’t question what you’re building, Till you see it crumbling down. [Chorus 1] Nothing ever promised, Nothing ever said, Just filled the empty spaces with the things inside our heads. Nothing ever promised, But still we planned it out, Built our hopes on expectations... That never did pan out. (That never did pan out) — [Bridge] We call it learning, call it growing, When it costs us everything. Trying to make it sound like purpose, So that the loss don’t sting... — [Verse 3] Now I’m standing in the quiet, Where the answers used to be. Trying just to not look too much, Into what's left of me. [Verse 4] I don’t need another reason, Don’t need someone else to blame. Trying just not to repeat it, And make the same mistakes again. [Pre-Chorus] Maybe that’s the only truth here, That there's no design, nor plan. Just doing what we think is right, With what we understand... [Final Chorus] Nothing ever promised, No rewind, no amend. Just accounting for the damage, And the time that’s left to spend. Nothing ever promised, We were guessing all along. Now we try to use what’s left here, Before the moment’s gone. [Outro] Still it is not promised, That it will work out fine. Just a series of decisions, Taken one at a time... ⟢⟡⟣────────────⟢☢ Concept Note ☢⟣────────────⟢⟡⟣ As I've grown older, I've come to realize that many of life's biggest disappointments don't come from other people's broken promises — they come from expectations that only ever existed in our own minds. Long before we're old enough to question them, we inherit ways of thinking, loving, reacting, defining success and happiness, and understanding the world simply by watching the people around us. We rarely ask where those ideas or behavioural patterns came from because, at the time, they seem like the only way the world works — By the time we raise that question, if we ever do, we've often built part of our lives around those assumptions. Then, life changes. Sometimes the world changes. Sometimes we do. And suddenly the map we've been following no longer leads where we thought it would. And it sure is easy to look for someone to blame when life doesn't go as planned. But more often than not there isn't a villain in the story — only beliefs we never realized we were carrying, combined with the fact that life was never under any obligation to unfold the way we imagined. Nothing Ever Promised is my attempt to capture that moment —not as an accusation, or pretending to have answers, because I don't, but more as a realization. I wanted it to feel like an honest conversation with yourself after enough time has passed to see things more clearly — the moment you stop asking, "Who was wrong?" and start asking, "Where do I go from here?" So, ultimately, this track is a reminder that life doesn't come with guarantees, and that maybe the only thing we truly own is the next decision we make. — Atomic Analyzer ⟢⟡⟣────────────⟢☢Special Thanks☢⟣────────────⟡⟣⟣ My deepest thanks to @rcktmn whose incredible guitar riff became the heartbeat of the track. From the very first note to the final fade-out, the entire song evolved around that riff. Thank you for sharing your talent so generously and a huge shoutout to the True Rock Alliance Studio community for fostering the kind of creativity and collaboration that makes songs like this possible. I'd also like to thank @malakayi. It was through his awesome track "Equally Awkward" that I first discovered this riff and his interpretation inspired me to explore it in my own way. Funny how one piece of music can inspire another—that's one of the things I love most about the TRA community. 🤘 ℹTrue Rock Alliance Studio Discord: 👉https://discord.gg/tra-studio ℹMalakayi's Track & Profile Page: 👉https://suno.com/s/C74ECev1nDhPfHZD 🎧https://suno.com/@malakayi ⟢⟡⟣────────────⟢☢ TY 4 Listening ☢⟣────────────⟢⟡⟣
