If Karma Is Real

IF KARMA IS REAL I spent my years believing in the good I gave more than I ever said I could I carried names that weren't my own Built up a life, then watched it turn to stone I walked away when I could no longer breathe Was that my crime? Was that what I had to pay? I drew a line around my heart And somehow that became the moment everything fell apart So tell me, karma If you're somewhere keeping score What did I do To deserve this war? If karma is real, then tell me what I did What sin did I carry underneath my skin? What debt did I owe, what price did I hide For trying to save myself and stay alive? If karma is real, then show me where I went wrong I have searched my whole life for the place I don't belong Maybe some things happen without a reason or a sign Maybe this was never punishment Maybe I was only drawing a line I never wanted kingdoms made of gold I never wanted power, I never wanted control I wanted ordinary things — a voice, a chair A cup of coffee with someone I still loved there I watched a strong man slowly disappear While paperwork grew louder than the human fear And when I tried to speak, the story changed its face Suddenly I was the problem, I was the one to blame So tell me, karma If you're somewhere in the sky Why do the ones who speak the truth So often have to fight? If karma is real, then tell me what I did What sin did I carry underneath my skin? What debt did I owe, what price did I hide For trying to save myself and stay alive? If karma is real, then show me where I went wrong I have searched my whole life for the place I don't belong Maybe some things happen without a reason or a sign Maybe this was never punishment Maybe I was only drawing a line I made mistakes, God knows I've made a few I've hurt some people, I've been hurt too I've walked through darkness, I've lost my way I've had to face the things I did and couldn't change But if regret is all that karma needs Then let me carry mine, let me plant the seeds I'll answer for the things that came from me But I won't carry someone else's cruelty Maybe karma isn't thunder Maybe karma isn't fire Maybe it's the quiet understanding That I don't have to live inside your story anymore Maybe justice isn't vengeance Maybe freedom is the proof That after everything they tried to take I still know who I am If karma is real, then let it find me whole Let it judge the things I did, not the lies that I was told I will carry my mistakes, but I won't carry their shame I will answer for my choices, but I won't answer to their blame If karma is real, I don't need to be afraid I have faced the darkest parts of every choice I've made And if surviving was my crime Then I will wear that crime with pride Because I drew a line to save my life And I'm still standing on the other side Maybe I wasn't cursed. Maybe I wasn't chosen for this pain. Maybe there was never a cosmic reason For someone else's cruelty. Maybe karma isn't asking, “What did you do to deserve this?” Maybe it's asking, “What will you do with what happened to you?” And I choose to live. I choose to heal. I choose to remain. If karma is real... let it begin with me.
