Jäger and Jaguars (The Grand Tour S02E06)
[Intro] (Heavy classic rock guitar riff, steady driving drum beat, 80s rock bass groove enters) [Verse 1] The Cotswolds tent is freezing in the British winter air But on the studio screen the mountains rise up grand and fair Colorado's peaks are covered in a heavy coat of white Where three old British gentlemen are heading for a fight [Verse 2] They say that modern SUVs are boring and too dear They want to prove that old Jaguars can bring a better cheer With only a small budget for a classic luxury name They fly across the ocean to begin their winter game [Verse 3] Jeremy Clarkson chooses power, a supercharged design A Jaguar XJR saloon that looks incredibly fine A big V8 under the hood, four doors of black and chrome Ready to treat the snowy mountains like his personal home [Verse 4] And Richard Hammond brings style, a silver-grey design A Jaguar XK8 coupe that follows every line He thinks he looks sophisticated, driving like a lord The prettiest grand tourer that the budget could afford [Verse 5] But James May is traditional, a relic of the past A Jaguar XJS V12 that isn't very fast It’s brown and it is heavy, with electronics from the old But Captain Slow is confident it will conquer the cold [Verse 6] They start the engine engines, the road begins to climb Into the Rocky Mountains, racing against time The snow is falling heavy, the asphalt turns to ice These old rear-wheel drive luxury cars are paying a heavy price [Verse 7] The XJR is sliding, the back end swings out wide Jeremy is fighting with his traditional British pride He taps the throttle gently, the supercharger whines As he flies across the mountain peaks and through the alpine pines [Verse 8] The XK8 of Hammond has a problem with the grip The summer tires spinning on his little winter trip He has to fit some heavy chains around the shiny wheels To get the traction back again and fix the way it feels [Verse 9] And James is moving slowly, the V12 purrs so sweet But the heater is broken, freezing up his ancient feet He’s wearing three big coats inside the leather-covered space With a look of pure misery all over his face [Verse 10] They reach a frozen runway, a high mountain airport bay To do a drag race challenge in the middle of the day The snow is deep and slippery, the flags are dropping fast To see which old classic Jag can save the best for last [Verse 11] The XJR explodes with power, the V8 screams out loud It blasts right through the snowdrifts, making Clarkson very proud The XK8 is chasing hard, but cannot match the pace While James May's brown V12 is crawling through the place [Verse 12] Then they invent a crazy game upon the ski resort To see if old Jaguars can do a winter sport They tie a skier to the back with heavy-duty ropes And pull them up the icy hills and down the snowy slopes [Verse 13] Jeremy is driving fast, the skier flies high Carving through the powder underneath the mountain sky But Hammond loses control and drops into a ditch Ruining his luxury coupe on a high-octane pitch [Verse 14] They finish up the journey at the top of the pass Three beaten-up Jaguars standing on the frozen grass They proved that cheap old luxury can handle snow and ice Without the heavy price tag of a modern SUV device [Verse 15] Back inside the Cotswolds tent, the crowd is laughing loud At the ridiculous American trip that made the trio proud They debate the reliability of British engineering prime Concludig that a classic Jag is worth it every time [Verse 16] In Celebrity Face-Off, the battle lines are drawn Two legendary actors walk out on the studio lawn Luke Evans and Kiefer Sutherland are racing for the crown To see who is the fastest action star inside the town [Verse 17] The second song is over, the Colorado trip is done From the snowy ski resorts to the setting western sun The Grand Tour truck is packing, the engines roar out loud On to the next adventure, keeping petrolheads so proud [Outro] (Screaming classic rock guitar solo, heavy drums crashing, V8 engine revving sound, final big rock chord fading out slowly)
