Hotter Than Jamaica
[Intro] (Caribbean accent, close-mic voices, Bright, steel drums, upbeat country-rock with a touch of humor. deep baritone, Male vocal. 4/4 time, 110 BPM.), The sun's been workin' overtime, Not a cloud to slow its flame. Boise's bakin' in the daylight, And summer's callin' out my name. [Verse 1] It's muggy here in Boise town, Ninety-four degrees and climbin' still. Thirty-one percent hue-mid-ity, Enough to break a Fire Fighter's will. The sky's a crystal canvas blue, Not a single cloud in sight. The sun keeps turnin' up the heat, From morning till the night. [Verse 2] The forecast says, "Just wait and see," One hundred plus for days ahead. Four long days of swelterin' heat, Enough to fry an egg instead. The sidewalks shimmer, rivers gleam, The air is thick and slow. Even the shade is sweatin' now, With nowhere cool to go. [Bridge] Now here's the part that makes me laugh, (laughing) You'd think the islands own the heat. But Kingston, Jamaica is cooler than Boise is with 84 degrees. Now that's a weather-world defeat! Who would've guessed that Idaho Would steal the tropical crown? The desert's got the last word now, As the mercury climbs on down. [Verse 3] The sprinklers dance across the lawns, Kids are chasin' every spray. Cold lemonade and ceiling fans And a good Rum Cake, Help us make it through the day. The Boise River calls our names, A welcome place to hide. Anything to beat this heat, And cool this summer ride. ..(maybe a glass of rum) [Verse 4] Tomorrow brings another sunrise, Another blazing afternoon. We'll count the days until the breeze Comes singing a cooler tune. Till then we'll smile, we'll joke around, And tell this story right: "Remember when Boise beat Jamaica For the hottest place in sight?" [Instrumental Interlude] (Acoustic guitar solo with steel drum, driving drums, and honky-tonk piano. (Let the music capture the shimmering summer heat before easing into the final section.) [Outro] Boise's burning under deep blue skies, Summer's putting on a show. Who'd have thought we'd top Jamaica? Now everybody knows. We'll ride it out together, Waiting for the win-ters air. Till then we'll keep on laughing, (laughing) In this Idaho heat we share. [Tag] (steel drums) "Kingston's cooler... Boise's hotter... now that's a summer we'll never forget! And the rum was good."
