Two Loves Within Me

Two loves within me waged a war, One drove the other to the core, Uncaring how they tore apart And tortured my exhausted heart. When to the first my soul draws near, The second whispers, drawing clear, And peace is hard to find anew When grace is gone, and old hurts burn through. Like a weary wanderer at a well, I crave one love to break the spell. I listen close and wide throw open the door, Hoping the flame will burn evermore. How can I reconcile two dreams, Like two beating hearts within it seems, Dragging my soul to opposite shores? Each promises peace as it knocks on my doors, Luring me into azure skies. How to attain that grace so deep, That sometimes visits me in sleep? Like a voice in the quiet of night, I listen, I listen, melting away, And whisper—please, let me not wake to day.
