The Flight of the Hummingbird
I used to hold a clipboard; I had to have a plan. I grew up in rural places and became a corporate man. I put on the suit and tie, but I was hollow deep inside. Smoking through the sadness, with nowhere left to hide, I thought I had it figured out, the logic and the rules. But living for a spreadsheet is a game for weary fools. Then life was only waiting for me to step away. To drop the heavy burden and find another way, I walked into the unknown, leaving the money on the line. Just waiting in the silence for the universe to sign. And the hummingbird is hovering, a shadow on the glass. Reminding me that all the noise is only going to pass, I’m walking on the carpet in a hangar, dark and wide. Following the whisper of the spirit deep inside Yeah, the tiny bird kept showing up right before my eyes, so I followed where it flew. I sat down with a healer; she asked me what I seek. I closed my eyes in silence. I didn’t have to speak. I gave away my life's work; I turned away the gold. When my body felt the warning, I broke the corporate mould. My pockets might be empty, and my friends think I've gone insane. But I found a kind of freedom that I never knew I had. When the ego starts to worry and the bank account is dry Every time I almost stumble, a sign is in the sky. A picture in a gallery, a stranger on a plane A tiny winged reminder that I'm on the path again And the hummingbird is hovering, a shadow on the glass. Reminding me that all the noise is only going to pass, I’m walking on the carpet in a hangar, dark and wide. Following the whisper of the spirit deep inside Yeah, the tiny bird kept showing up right before my eyes. So I followed where it flies. Is the universe a friendly place? The smartest man would ask If you trust the grand design, you can drop the heavy mask. Occasionally I still get lost, fumble in the dark and pray. But a wrong step's just a detour on the road that leads the way. If the path is a straight line, it belongs to someone else. I’m searching for the truth inside myself. Oh, the hummingbird is hovering, a shadow on the glass. Reminding me that all the noise is only going to pass, I’m walking on the carpet in a hangar, dark and wide. Following the whisper of the spirit deep inside Yeah, the tiny bird kept showing up right before my eyes, so I followed where it flew. Don't spoil the plans that life has made for you. Just wait until the tiny bird comes flying into view. Hand over my heart, waiting in the dark. Hand over my heart, waiting for the spark. Yes... this way.
