The waves were no longer as monstrous as they had been during the heart of the storm, yet every movement of the ocean seemed to remember the battle that had torn the heavens apart only hours earlier. The wood creaked beneath the saltwater, soaked and fractured by the violence of the sea, while a grey mist floated above the surface like a veil between worlds. Mikell sat beside Queen Skörta, his legs crossed despite the unstable raft. His water-covered fingers slowly traced invisible symbols through the air, as though he were calming something no one else could see. His single eye remained closed. His breathing was slow, deep, almost unreal. Torstein sat against a broken plank, nervously watching the scene unfold. The wound on his forehead still throbbed every time he moved. "You think she will recover soon?" Mikell did not answer immediately. The wind moved the queen’s soaked hair while he maintained his unsettling calm. "The queen is not like the others... Her spirit is elsewhere... but she will return." He paused briefly, carefully choosing his words. "The torment of the storm, most likely..." But Torstein immediately understood from his voice that he did not truly believe his own explanation. A few steps away, Jarl Mikal-Finnvard gritted his teeth while trying not to move his freshly restored shoulder too much. Despite the pain, his gaze remained sharp and attentive. He observed everything. Meanwhile, Mikki Þríkungr had already started searching through the queen’s belongings with the enthusiasm of a child discovering forgotten treasure. "Mhh... let us see... perhaps we may find something useful to save her, hihi... Besides, I have never seen what a queen’s bag looks like." Torstein suddenly reached out to stop him. "Hey! Stop that!" But it was too late. The bag tipped over onto the raft. Dozens of objects scattered across the wet wooden planks: small vials filled with dark ointments, dried plants tied together with red thread, bone fragments carved with runes, ancient pendants, polished stones covered in unfamiliar symbols. Silence fell immediately. Even the sound of the waves seemed distant for a moment. The jarl frowned. "Those... those are not exactly the belongings of a queen, are they?" Torstein slightly paled. He hurried to gather everything back into the bag. "I... no... They cannot belong to her. Skörta cannot be a witch... not our queen." Mikell slowly opened his eye and turned toward him with an almost paternal calm. "These are not the belongings of a witch, warrior..." Then he looked toward the unconscious queen. "She is an Andfuglsjá... She has guided us from the very beginning." Torstein froze. "But... you knew? Since the beginning?" "Not from the beginning. I understood it back in Skalvheim." Mikell sighed softly before continuing, a trace of deliberate disdain in his tone. "But what does it change, hm? Ah yes... your customs forbid it. Sorcery..." Torstein suddenly grabbed Mikell by the collar, anger burning in his eyes. "Do not speak to me like that, one-eye. You were not there when the princess needed protection. I have stood beside her for years. So do not lecture me... or you will end up overboard." The raft swayed slowly while the two men stared at one another. But Mikell did not react. No fear. No challenge. Only that calm gaze which often disarmed even the most violent men. Torstein eventually released him with a heavy breath. Mikell answered more gently this time. "I do not judge you. I understand your frustration... but tell me... did the queen know that Eir was your mother?" Torstein remained silent for a few seconds. "I do not even know it myself... I was always told my mother died when I was born." Mikki suddenly lifted his head with an amused smile. "Then Torstein... you are someone exceptional, capable of frightening others without even trying. Accept that your queen may be the same. Think about it, hihi..." The jarl then spoke calmly. "It changes absolutely nothing. We still have a quest to fulfill. And if Skörta can truly guide us through the ravens... then that is a valuable advantage." He looked toward the dark horizon. "We do not know what awaits us. But remember, she was the one who led us toward the trail of Yggdrasil." Torstein lowered his eyes before slowly nodding. "You are right... If we find Yggdrasil..." At that exact moment, the queen suddenly inhaled violently, as though she had surfaced from a bottomless ocean. Mikell quickly placed a hand behind her head to stop her from rising too fast. Skörta opened her eyes with difficulty. "I... where are we...? Mikell... would you let go of me?" A slight smile appeared on the wanderer’s face as he gently released her. The cat Blíðki crawled out from beneath the queen and immediately climbed into her arms, purring weakly. "You were in another world, my queen." Skörta’s gaze still seemed distant. "I was... between two lands... As though my spirit was drifting elsewhere... And when I awoke... I felt as though I had reached the shore." Torstein shook his head. "But we are not on land yet. We barely have any supplies left and..." Mikki suddenly burst into laughter. "Hihi... you are mistaken, Torstein. The queen sees everything." The old druid pointed toward the horizon. Everyone slowly turned their heads. There, massive and dark through the mist, land finally appeared. A wild and silent coast, almost unreal. Mikki then looked back at Skörta with a mischievous smile. "Now... it is time to find Yggdrasil. Getting lost between worlds sounds rather enjoyable, hihi..." 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 I drift beneath cold stars Andfuglsjá mín The sea still calls my name Hrafnar vaka I cannot feel the shore Milli heima Sál mín sefur (so quietly) I hear the oceans breathe tonight Fjöður falla (around me) The ravens know what I became Augu vaka (vakna hægt) My crown feels heavier than stone Vindr minn syngr (í draumi) Yet my soul floats beyond the waves Sjá mig Hrafnar Draumar gráta (hægt, hægt) I walked between the frozen worlds Himin klofnar (fyrir mér) The gods were watching through the storm Hjarta bundit (við örlög) I feared this path was not my own Skuggar kalla (komdu nær) Still they remained beside my soul I... I was never meant to carry all this alone En þeir standa hjá mér Andfuglsjá mín I can hear the worlds beneath me Andfuglsjá mín No... no crown can silence what I see Og ég... I drift between the gods and sea Andfuglsjá mín Still terrified of destiny I... I feel their hands around my soul Hrafnar syngja Andfuglsjá mín But... where am I? Is this... Yggdrasil? Am I there? No... where are the others... I woke beside forgotten shores The cold still lives inside my bones I saw familiar weary eyes Yet none of this feels truly real I heard Mikell call my name And something moved beneath my chest I cannot tell what frightens me The sea... or finally being seen Andfuglsjá mín I can hear the worlds awaken now Andfuglsjá mín No... no fear can chain my spirit down And I... Still carry storms beneath my skin Andfuglsjá mín But now I know where I begin I... I was never truly alone The ravens guided me through night Andfuglsjá mín Andfuglsjá mín I still hear them calling
