The Sidecar Shuffle
[Verse 1] He steps in bold with a cane and a glide, Top hat gleamin’, shoes polished with pride, Sharp as a razor, cool on the prowl, They all turn heads for The Cat’s Meow! He slides through the crowd, does a Shorty George, Charleston side-steps, the floor’s his forge, Tappin’ those toes like a stovetop sizzlin’, Hittin' on all sixes, and man, he is whistlin’! [Verse 2] At the DownLow Club, where the giggle water flows, And the flappers fly with their feathered boas, It’s snazzy and jazzy, the band’s on fire, A live wire night full of red-hot desire! In the spotlight’s glow, like a flame divine, Sings Strawberry Blonde, a starlet so fine, Her voice? Like honey, with a lemon twist, She ain’t misbehavin’ when she blows him a kiss. She’s the eel's hips and the butterfly’s boots, And her Getaway Sticks give the crowd the zoots! [Chorus] When the cards don’t fall and the dice don’t dance, You still jitterbug when you get the chance. Life’s a highball, that's shaken, not stirred. With a Strawberry Blonde and a Flapper Bird. [Verse 3] Enter Flapper Girl, a tall bird with style, A beaded dress swingin’ and a pearly smile, She does the Side Pass with a shimmy-shake, Charleston kicks that make the dance floor quake! She clocks her ex from across the joint, "Oh, The Cat’s Meow, he sure can disappoint. He broke my heart, and left me high and dry, Now he’s sweet on a crush? Oh me, oh my." [Verse 4] The cat smooths his whiskers and purrs real low, (“Strawberry doll, shall we steal the show?”) With a Sugar Push and a Jockey Step move, (“Care to triple-step while the band's in the groove?”) But Miss Blonde just laughs, with a smile and wink, “Swing out, Cool Cat. I’m not who you think. I’m a modern dame, I swing my own way, And I’ve got eyes for the flapper today." She asks Flapper to dance, her meaning so clear, With the Dapper Cat left there clutching his beer. [Bridge] Now Flapper Girl asks “You’re the berries, Red, But I thought you liked the tomcats here instead?” Strawberry laughs, “Well, ain't that a twist, But you're the bee’s knees, too swell to resist." They Lindy together, swingin’ ‘round the floor, Poppin’ Sailor Kicks and Slingshots galore, The Cat steps back, with a gentleman’s sigh, "Guess I’m sittin’ pretty watchin’ you fly by. Carry a torch?” he says with a grin, "Sometimes you get burned, sometimes you win.” [Chorus] When the cards don’t fall and the dice don’t dance, You still jitterbug when you get the chance. Life’s a highball, that's shaken, not stirred. With a Strawberry Blonde and a Flapper Bird. [Outro] Now the juice joint’s jumpin’, it's the berries, no doubt, The Cat sips giggle water, his tail stretched out. Perched by the bar, sippin' a sidecar slow, Watchin’ dames cut a rug and steal the show. ‘Cuz love ain't a straight line, it's a Lindy swing, Sometimes you lead, sometimes you wing. And if it don’t swing? And you don't get to drive. Sometimes you ride sidecar and take five to survive. So don’t make a scene or cause a kerfuffle, Just strut off the floor with The Sidecar Shuffle. The Sidecar Shuffle. The Sidecar Shuffle.
