Depression took me from the world I knew Took my light, turned my skies all blue Took my time, took my energy Even took my kids away from me Making things worse I tried to take my own life Just didn’t have a reason why I was breathin’ but I wasn’t there Empty eyes, heavy stare, No words Days blurred into one long night Couldn’t tell wrong from right I faded slow, didn’t even see how deep it was takin’ me Lost sight of life and love, kids and smiles Those are moments I can’t get back Lost myself in a silent trap Every day and night laps Depression ain’t just feelin’ sad It steals the good you never had It pulls you under, holds you still Tells you lies until you will Forget your worth, forget your name Forget you ever had a flame But even in that darkest sea A part of me still fought for me She still loved life and her family There’s no doubt about it But down deep she was still fighting It took my peace, it took my air Left me lost and unaware But it never took my fight I’m standin’ here tonight Making this song, bringing it to light Taking everything out of gear, Stating this moment for everyone, that I’ll never lose my voice! My kids… they needed more than me But I was who I couldn’t be And that truth cut deeper still A pain no words could ever fill Unable to be there, killed every single cell, The numbness spell I was under Took the pain to a whole new level, System took ‘em from my hands Forced me to finally understand That if I don’t change my way I lose everything one day Depression had me locked in place But I saw it in my babies’ face The broken, the tears, the sadness they always feared. I couldn’t stay where I had been I had to fight… I had to win It tried to end me, tried to win But I found strength deep within Even broken, I could see There was more left inside of me Standing up to see, I saw everything in between, And that’s when I realized, it was time to get up and get back on top. That was the moment I chose to rise Looked my pain dead in the eyes Said “you don’t get to take it all” And I stood up from that fall I knew what was right, getting my kids back into the light, Getting out of my mind to clear out some crazy ideas Depression didn’t end my story It became a part of my glory Every tear, every scar Showed me exactly who we are It took a lot from me… But it didn’t take everything Because I am a mom, and a daughter, And my mama wouldn’t leave me behind. So now here we are, waking up and gathering the right cards I am BlackBandit
