[Verse 1] Pulled up to a diner Chrome sign humming in the dark Coffee in a chipped blue mug Laugh lines on your heart You were stealing all my french fries Boots kicked up on the seat Jukebox spinning something reckless You were laughing off the beat (oh yeah) [Chorus] Midnight in Montana Nothing on the road but us Just a half tank and a wild plan Chasing every little rush If the sun don’t find us We’ll just keep making our own dawn Midnight in Montana All night long All night long [Verse 2] Map spread on the dashboard Creased and torn from other days You circled every small-town dot Called them “places we’ll misbehave” Wind howled through the window You just howled a little too Said “If trouble wants to find me It can stand in line with you” (hey!) [Chorus] Midnight in Montana Nothing on the road but us Just a half tank and a wild plan Chasing every little rush If the sun don’t find us We’ll just keep making our own dawn Midnight in Montana All night long All night long [Instrumental Break – Sax Solo] [saxophone wails over a hard-driving piano boogie Guitar chops answering in the gaps] [Instrumental Break – Xylophone Feature] [xylophone dances the main hook in a bright Percussive run Then lands back into the groove] [Bridge] You said “Promise me one favor If we ever grow too tame We’ll drive until the sky runs out And learn each other’s names again” [Chorus] Midnight in Montana Nothing on the road but us Just a half tank and a wild plan Chasing every little rush If the sun don’t find us We’ll just keep making our own dawn Midnight in Montana Midnight in Montana All night long All night long (oh yeah)
