Am I Me
Alarm clock screams, same war every day Coffee tastes like yesterday’s mistake Mirror’s asking questions I won’t face Tie it tight, put on the same old name Streetlights blink, and we all fall in line Same shoes walking different kinds of time Billboards telling me what I should be Funny how they always sound like me Every step feels scripted, every word rehearsed Am I living life or just echoing the herd? Am I me running for the edge? Chasing all the noise inside my head Following a path I never chose Just another face nobody knows If I stop, will I finally see? Was I ever really me? Or just drifting with the tide, pretending I’m alive Am I me? Boss man says, “You’re doing just fine” Funny how that sounds like “fall in line” Dreams I had are buried in the noise Somewhere between the shoulds and the avoid Friends talk loud but no one really hears We just trade distractions, hide the fear Scrolling lives that look like something real Wonder if they’re faking what I feel Every truth I swallow leaves a bitter taste How much of myself did I replace? Am I me running for the edge? Chasing all the noise inside my head Following a path I never chose Just another face nobody knows If I stop, will I finally see? Was I ever really me? Or just drifting with the tide, pretending I’m alive Am I me? What if I break formation, lose the map? Let the silence answer back What if wrong is where I should’ve gone? What if I’ve been right all along? Take the fall or take control Either way I lose the role But maybe losing’s how I win Maybe that’s where I begin No more echoes, no more lines No more borrowed alibis I’m not me running for the edge I’ll rewrite the noise inside my head I’ll carve a road I get to choose Even if I’m bound to lose If I stop, I might finally see There’s a truth inside of me Not drifting with the tide, I’m choosing to be alive I’m me. Let them run, let them fall, let them go I’ll find my own way down this road No more asking who I’m meant to be I’m done… I’m finally me.
