[Verse 1] Cold wind’s howlin’ through the canyon tonight Snow clouds rollin’ in, blockin’ out the light Got my herd down low by the frozen stream Livin’ off coffee and an old man’s dream [Chorus] Winter’s comin’, you can feel it in your bones Out here on the prairie, you make it on your own Ain’t no mercy in the frost or the stormin’ wind Winter’s comin’, and she don’t forgive no men [Verse 2] Hands cracked open, boots worn through Ain’t much left but the work I do Fence line’s broken, coyotes call One wrong step and it’s a long cold fall [Chorus] Winter’s comin’, you can feel it in your bones Out here on the prairie, you make it on your own Ain’t no mercy in the frost or the stormin’ wind Winter’s comin’, and she don’t forgive no men [Bridge] Once had a woman, she couldn’t take the fight Rode off east under pale moonlight Now it’s me and the land and the cattle’s cry Under God’s wide hand and the endless sky [Chorus Refrain] Winter’s comin’, you can feel it in your bones Out here on the prairie, you make it on your own Ain’t no mercy in the frost or the stormin’ wind Winter’s comin’, and she don’t forgive no men [Outro] So I’ll light one match ‘fore the dawn breaks through Tip my hat to the ghost of the few ‘Cause winter’s comin’, like she always do And I’ll ride it out, just me and the truth
