Fuel wasn't free, repairs were becoming more frequent, and delivering aid supplies rarely paid enough to keep an aging freighter operational. Then an offer arrived. The payout was unusually high for a simple cargo run beyond the Core lanes. No questions, no inspections, no paperwork. Just a sealed container and a destination. Nobody liked it. The cargo carried no civilian registry markings, parts of the manifest had been erased, and the payment was routed through anonymous accounts. By the time Darek, Aurelya and the others realized the container was linked to military encryption codes, they had already crossed the jump gate. Turning back would draw attention. Continuing might be even worse. As tensions rose aboard the *Sector 9*, long-range scanners detected patrol vessels moving to intercept. Someone had known exactly where they were heading. What started as an easy payday quickly became a fight for survival and a hard lesson about the price of bad decisions. The heated arguments that followed during the escape would later inspire one of the earliest songs of the Interstellar Blues Syndicate — a story about smuggling, trust, survival, and the realization that some things are too dangerous to carry, no matter how badly you need the money. ___________________________________________________________ [Intro] "We’re clear of the Core lanes..." "No patrol tags..." "nothing on registry..." "This run wasn’t supposed to feel like this..." "You checked the crate twice..." "right?" "Because that seal isn’t trade code..." "It’s flagged military..." "or worse..." "We can still turn back..." "Once we cross the gate, they won’t ask questions..." [Chorus – sung] No law out here, just what you choose No line between the right and wrong You don’t get back the parts you lose You just keep flying with them gone Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh [Verse 2] "Too late now..." "we already crossed the gate..." "You knew that when you locked the course..." "If we turn they’ll track us..." "If we don’t..." "we get paid." "Paid for what...?" "You didn’t even scan the damn core..." "You’re flying blind for a number..." "And I’m the one sitting next to it..." [Chorus – sung] No law out here, just what you choose No line between the right and wrong You don’t get back the parts you lose You just keep flying with them gone [Bridge] "We finish this..." "No... we survive this..." [Chorus – sung] Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh [Verse 3] "Incoming ping..." "damn it..." "patrol..." "They’re locking on us..." "too fast..." "They knew we were coming..." "Then listen carefully..." "We dump it now..." "or we don’t make orbit..." "I’m not dying for something we didn’t even choose..." [Final Chorus – sung] No line to cross, no space to choose They’re right behind, we feel them close You don’t outrun the things you move You carry them where no one goes Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh Oh-oh-oh-oh [Outro] "...We needed that payout..." "...Not enough to disappear for it..."
