[Intro] Ahh... my lovely city. Same old morning. Same upside-down people. Same crazy streets. [Verse 1] I stepped outside and hit the road, Little short steps, light as air. Gotta pick my order from the post, Hope my package will be there. Kids were firing bazookas at the statue, Right there by the traffic light. Mr. Mayor came walking past, “Fix it up before tonight!” “Morning, Mr. Mayor, how you doing?” [Mayor — Spoken, cheerful, casual] “Hey, kid. You’re jogging with your feet now?” [Verse 2] “Yeah, sir. I’m heading to the post.” “Ah, good luck, young man. Hope you get what you want.” Then he turned around and yelled, “Hey! Stop shooting at that thing!” Two hands walking down the street, Like that’s a perfectly normal scene. Everybody walks upside down, Nobody here thinks twice. Cars drive with their feet at the wheel, And somehow that seems just right. [Pre-Chorus] Green light! Everybody goes! Red light! Everybody stops! People in their fancy cars Still hold cans out to the folks who walk. Funny thing about this town... The people on foot are rich. [Chorus] I ordered a story, I ordered a life, One little button And I’m outta this side! I ordered a story, Tell me what I’ll be, Push that button, baby, Send me back to me! Whoa-oh! Send me back to me! Whoa-oh! Push that button, baby, Send me back to me! [Verse 3] What time is it? I look up high, Stars are dancing in the blue. Clouds look like a Van Gogh painting, Even the sun looks strange and new. Small steps, small steps down the road, The post office comes into view. Pigeons flying everywhere, Hope my order finally came through. I walk inside. Nobody there. Lucky me, a quiet morning. There’s the postman wiping down A parrot like it pays his rent. [Verse 4] “Hey, sir, is my order here?” [Postman — Spoken] “Ahh... you again. Give me a second.” He types my name into the screen, Clicks a button, looks at me. “Well, look at that! Your pigeon’s almost here. Wait... aren’t you the kid Who ordered a life as an owl?” “That’s me.” [Postman] “Kid, that’s not an easy life. Nobody pays attention to owls.” “Don’t worry, sir. That’s exactly what I want.” “Say, aren’t you bored living here?” “Bored? No way! Getting a job like this is already a dream. Back on Earth, I had no luck. All I did was fish all day. Applied for jobs, nobody called... So I stayed beside the lake.” I looked at him. “You’re the guy who drowned because you fell asleep fishing, right?” [Postman laughs] [Chorus] I ordered a story, I ordered a life, One little button And I’m outta this side! I ordered a story, Tell me what I’ll be, Push that button, baby, Send me back to me! Whoa-oh! Send me back to me! Whoa-oh! Push that button, baby, Send me back to me! [Verse 5] Then— A pigeon nearly hit the window, Stopped dead in mid-air. It opened the window with its feet. [Pigeon — Excited, funny] “A PACKAGE! A PACKAGE!” The postman pointed at me. [Postman] “There you go.” I put that pigeon on the table, Gave its feathers one little stroke. It closed its eyes, dropped my box, Then flew away to get some more. [Bridge] A little box. A little button. That’s all I got. But inside that box was my way home. I opened it... And there it was. One button. Finally. [Final Chorus] I ordered a story, I ordered a life, One little button And I’m outta this side! I’ll be an owl, Flying through the night, Nobody cares, And that feels alright! I ordered a story, I ordered a life, One little button... ...and I’m going home tonight. [Postman — Distant] “Careful, young man!” [Outro] I looked at the city one last time. Upside-down streets. Walking cars. Rich pedestrians. Flying pigeons. My crazy little home. Then the world turned white. And somewhere far away... A night bird opened its eyes. “Meow—” No. Wrong story. Heh.
