FRANK 018 – Safie and the De Laceys | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) A stranger came in winter and stood before their door, And Felix rushed to greet her with joy he hid no more. Her voice was strange and musical, her words he could not know, Yet through the family's welcome he watched affection grow. (Verse 2) As Felix taught her language, each sound became more clear, The hidden pupil listened and stored the meaning near. They spoke of lands and peoples, of empire, law and throne, And through another's lessons he learned the world unknown. (Chorus) By listening through the timber, he learned the human tongue, And histories of nations where countless lives were sung. But more than words and kingdoms, their household let him see, The bond of human friendship and what a home could be. (Verse 3) He learned how rank and riches could cast the poor aside, How conquest crowned the powerful and nourished human pride. He learned that laws could shelter, and laws could also bind, And wondered where a being like him belonged in humankind. (Verse 4) Safie's laughter filled the cottage and warmed the humble room, While happiness around her made faded spirits bloom. He watched the family's tenderness illuminate each face, And dreamed that he might someday be welcomed to their grace. (Chorus) By listening through the timber, he learned the human tongue, And histories of nations where countless lives were sung. But more than words and kingdoms, their household let him see, The bond of human friendship and what a home could be. (Bridge) With every word he mastered, his solitude grew plain, For knowledge gave him language to understand his pain. He learned the name of friendship, of family and care, And knew at last exactly what he longed with them to share. (Outro) The hidden giant listened as evening shadows fell, And gathered human knowledge from every tale they tell. Yet learning brought a question that followed every clue, For now he understood their world, but not what made him true.
