[Verse 1] Bitten, mocked and underpaid, your struggled smile’s a masquerade. Same jokes, same comments made— 'cause you’re… just a postman. (short pause) Your tired legs climb endless stairs, heavy bags, but no one cares your broken body aches everywhere, 'cause you’re… just a postman. [Verse 2] (slight pause) There are bad days, there are Sundays. Early morning call on Monday Ushers in another cold & wet and less-than-fun-day 'cause you’re… just a postman. [Chorus] Your footsteps echo through the rain, up endless steps and wet garden paths, in pain. Every door you knock, every street you walk— Stories no longer shared, no longer time to talk. No respect at all, eroded down the years no pride in the uniform, no more, no sir . [Verse 3] (mid pause) The curtain twitches at twenty nine, the clink of bottles, before sunrise a smile and chat at the garden gate— now its junk through the door, always running late. You knew by name, by number, street the many faces that you often meet. You knew more than they’ll ever understand— delivering pieces of their lives from hand to hand. [Chorus – fuller] Your footsteps echo through the rain, up endless steps and wet garden paths, in pain. Every door you knock, every street you walk— Stories no longer shared, no longer time to talk. No respect at all, eroded down the years no pride in the uniform, no more, no sir . [Bridge] And maybe no one says it— maybe no one sees… ever-present walking the streets. (soft) No headlines. No glory. No fame— …you're always there, but they don't remember your name. [Final Chorus – emotional lift] Your footsteps echo through the rain, up endless steps and wet garden paths, in pain. Every door you knock, every street you walk— Stories no longer shared, no longer time to talk. No respect at all, eroded down the years no pride in the uniform, no more, no sir . [Outro] (soft, fading) Bitten, mocked… and underpaid— striding on through wind and rain… Another parcel, another bill another card to fill cause you're... just a postman.
