"The Donkey Who Couldn’t Take No for an Answer"
The Donkey Who Couldn’t Take No for an Answer 🫏🐐🐓🦉 [Verse 1] On a small farm lived a donkey named John, Strong and tireless, but stubborn all along. Whenever he wanted something, he would not let it rest, Believing that asking long enough could turn a NO to YES. [Verse 2] One day beneath the old apple tree, Kate the goat was resting quietly. “Will you play with me?” “No, John. I want to be alone right now,” Kate answered kindly. But John stayed there. “Just for a moment.” “No.” “But I’m sure it will be fun.” “I said no.” [Pre-Hook 1] John snorted, unable to understand .... Why Kate would not give in to his demand. He nudged her and kept talking, refusing to stop... So Kate got to her feet and walked off. [Verse 3] The next day John asked the rooster for his breakfast. “No,” but John kept on asking. Five more times he asked. At last, the rooster climbed up high, With his grain atop the manure heap, beyond John’s reach if he tried. [Pre-Hook 2] Little by little, all the animals stayed away, And suddenly John felt very lonely. He sought out the old, wise owl and asked her why...... “Why doesn’t anyone want me nearby?” The owl looked at him for a long time before she replied. [Hook] A no is not the start of a negotiation. Sometimes a no simply ends the question. Respect is not forcing someone to say yes. It is accepting a no instead. [Bridge] John lowered his head. When the next morning came, He went back to Kate and asked her once again: “Would you like to go for a walk with me?” “No,” John nodded. “All right.” He turned around and walked away. Then Kate called after him: “Maybe tomorrow.” [Final Hook] A no is not the start of a negotiation. Sometimes a no simply ends the question. Respect is not forcing someone to say yes. It is accepting a no instead. [Outro] From that day on, John learned what respect meant: Not forcing a yes, but accepting a no. And the better he understood it, The kinder the other animals became toward him. Lyrics copyright 07/2026 Kati Weber All rights reserved
