[start] [Intro: Strummed acoustic guitar with jangly electric fills, steady drum groove] [Verse 1] I was holding on to anger like a rusted chain Walking through the midnight with a heart full of pain Last night I prayed, asked for light to come He whispered back, “forgive, and your peace will run” [Chorus] Lay it down, let it go You don’t need the fire, it just burns your soul Lay it down, set it free Forgiveness is the key that’s been waiting for me [Verse 2] I thought carrying the weight would make me strong But it only kept me weary, kept me moving wrong Now I know mercy is the road I choose It’s the only kind of fight where you never lose [Chorus] Lay it down, let it go You don’t need the fire, it just burns your soul Lay it down, set it free Forgiveness is the key that’s been waiting for me [Bridge: Electric guitar solo with Hammond organ swell] No need for revenge, no need for control I found a little light shining deep in my soul If heaven’s got a plan, well I’m walking that line Leaving all the darkness for the bright sunlight [Chorus] Lay it down, let it go You don’t need the fire, it just burns your soul Lay it down, set it free Forgiveness is the key that’s been waiting for me [Outro: Harmonica riff over fading guitars, soft organ chords] Lay it down… Lay it down… [end]
