How much guilt do you feel With all the hurt that remains? How many times were you needed, lost interest and refused to stay? How do you sleep with such clandestine ways? When you turn the light on all your darkness remains. You paint yourself in color, all that work to hide the grey, but you’re what’s beneath when I peel this layer away. What’s under the surface! What do you hide beneath the surface? I’m your worst critic You may have fooled the rest But you’ll never trick me Or pass my test I can see through you And your masterpiece design I’ve read your method I know what you left behind. You smile on stage but scowl under your breath You represent only lies because you hide what’s left You’re sad and bitter. Deep down you’re scared Too afraid to admit You never truly cared That’s you on blast! Plastic like from a mold. Empty of value, guilty of the fake you sold. What’s under the surface? What do you hide beneath the surface? How much pain do you feel How much pain do you feel When all their needs remain? How many times were you begged, made excuses and walked away? How do you smile as you live your life this way? What excuses do you give and what lies do you say? You paint yourself in color, all that work to hide the grey, but you’re what’s beneath. You’re the ugliness that wasn’t traced. What’s under the surface? What do you hide beneath the surface? What do you hide beneath the surface!? What do you hide beneath the surface?
