[AEGIS] is one part of a pair of songs, depicting a duo whose fates are inextricably tied. Of the two, the creation of this one saw a much smoother process, helped along by a series of fortunate coincidences that made it come out even more beautifully than I had envisioned. Thanks to that, its partner track was given a much more solid foundation to stand on, laying the path for this dual release to be possible. This song seeks to portray a paradoxical semblance of a hero — one sworn to defend the people of the world, but instilled with "cruelty" as their core value. Loyal to their cause, they carry their badge with honor, never letting their conscience waver or straying from their cause for even a moment. Yet at the same time, beneath a veneer of beauty, they taunt and torment their foes with the utmost contempt, their words and actions laced with cruelty beyond reason. Standing on the side of justice, yet so far from its ideal vision, they nonetheless serve as the world's unyielding shield. As heavy blows rain down, their only answer is a mocking sneer as they calculate their counterattack.
