🎢 Song 179 – The Empty Basin

V6

Paper 179 – The Last Supper 🎢 Song: The Empty Basin (Verse 1 – The Upper Room) The city slept beneath the stars, While destiny moved behind closed doors. An upper room was waiting there, Prepared with bread and wine and prayer. The family welcomed them inside, The hour had come, the time was right. Yet something lingered in the air, A silent weight, a hidden care. The Master knew what lay ahead, The path of sorrow he would tread. (Verse 2 – The Seats of Honor) Twelve men entered side by side, Still carrying dreams of power and pride. The basin waited by the door, The towels untouched upon the floor. No servant came to do the task, And none would stoop enough to ask. They searched for places near the throne, While love stood waiting all alone. One claimed honor at the Master's side, While heaven wept for wounded pride. (Chorus) There was an empty basin, There was a waiting towel, There was a Kingdom being born In ways they missed somehow. Not by crowns and not by might, Not by power over men. But by the hands that choose to serve Again and yet again. (Verse 3 – The King Who Knelt) Then silence filled the upper room, More powerful than words could prove. The Master rose and took the cloth, The Lord of all becoming less. He knelt before the feet of men, Who still would fail and flee from him. He washed their dust, he washed their pride, He washed the roads they'd walked beside. The King of Heaven bowed that night, And greatness took another form. (Chorus) There was an empty basin, There was a waiting towel, There was a Kingdom being born In ways they missed somehow. Not by crowns and not by might, Not by power over men. But by the hands that choose to serve Again and yet again. (Verse 4 – Judas Iscariot) One heart had wandered far away, Though still he sat among the Twelve. The silver had not changed hands yet, But choices had been deeply set. The Master looked with sorrowed grace, Still offering him his rightful place. No harsh command, no public shame, Still calling him by friend and name. Love stood beside him to the end, Yet could not choose for him again. (Bridge) A basin... A towel... A table... A choice... One heart surrendered. One heart withdrew. One walked toward Gethsemane. One walked into the night. (Verse 5 – The Remembrance) Then bread was broken, wine was shared, A simple meal, a sacred prayer. No sacrifice of lamb or sword, But living fellowship with the Lord. "Remember not my death alone, But how the Father's love was shown. Remember truth, remember grace, Remember every human face." Within that cup and broken bread, A greater covenant lay ahead. (Final Chorus) There was an empty basin, There was a waiting towel, There was a Kingdom being born In ways they missed somehow. Not by crowns and not by might, Not by power over men. But by the hands that choose to serve Again and yet again. There was an empty basin, Yet Heaven filled the room. And in the shadow of the cross, Eternal love would bloom. (Outro) They ended with a hymn. The city did not know. The priests did not know. The soldiers did not know. Only the Master knew... That the next road would lead through darkness, And that love would walk it willingly. 🎢
