天照の大祓

[序] かけまくも かしこき → Awesomely and reverently 天照皇大神の → before Amaterasu Ōmikami, the Great Divine Sun 大御前に → in Her august presence つつしみ かしこみ 申し奉る → we humbly and reverently offer these words この地に満ちたる → that fill this land 争いの念 → thoughts of conflict 憎しみの穢れ → the defilement of hatred 恐れの影を → and the shadows of fear いま ここに → here and now 祓い給え → please cast them away 清め給え → and purify them [一] 八百万の神々よ → O myriad gods 山の神　海の神 → gods of the mountains, gods of the seas 風の神　火の神 → gods of wind, gods of fire 人の心を司る神々よ → gods who govern the human heart 怒りに染まりし魂を → souls stained by anger やさしき光に還し → return them to gentle light 悲しみに沈みし心を → hearts sunken in sorrow 御神火にて 温め給え → warm them with sacred divine flame [二] 剣を取る手よ → O hands that take up the sword いま その力をおろし → now lay down that power 人を憎む心よ → O hearts that hate others いま 愛に変われ → now be transformed into love この世を覆う → that cover this world 怨嗟と欲と絶望を → resentment, desire, and despair 天の岩戸より → from the Heavenly Rock Cave 射す御光にて → by the shining divine light 焼き祓いたまえ → burn and cleanse them away [間] 祓え → Purify 清めよ → Cleanse 祓え → Purify 清めよ → Cleanse [三] 天照皇大神よ → O Amaterasu Ōmikami その御顔を → turn Your sacred face この世界に向け給え → toward this world 闇に迷う者に → to those lost in darkness 道を示し → show the path 苦しむ者に → to those who suffer 憩いを与え → grant rest and peace 争いを → turn conflict 調和へ → into harmony 憎しみを → turn hatred 慈しみへ → into compassion 変え給え → transform them [結] 八百万の神々よ → O myriad gods この願いを聞き給え → hear this prayer 人の世を → the world of humankind 戦なき世へ → into a world without war 涙なき世へ → a world without tears 光満つる世へ → a world filled with light 導きたまえ → guide us there かけまくも かしこき → Awesomely and reverently 天照皇大神の → before Amaterasu Ōmikami 大御前に → in Her august presence かしこみ かしこみ → in deepest reverence 白す → we solemnly proclaim
