Little bird That glides around Hovering near Wings beating the air You chirp And with such bright sound Announce You will stay Guarding the space Your trees with blooms The bird feeders there You dive at others Who may wander near Not friendly To your kind As you proclaim This foliage Belongs to you Gliding through leaves Hovering on air Turning with ease Mid flight Some say that you carry Messages of joy Or indicate transformation A tiny messenger To signal A great transition Wings moving so fast They seem to disappear Feathers of grey Yet in some light They change To iridescent green Or red They say You remember Every flower you visit Every flight Every path And always return And always return Little bird That glides around Hovering near Wings beating the air You chirp And with such bright sound Announce You will stay
