Thanks to Valeska’s bell, the wounds from the collapse of the tannery are completely healed. As he comes to, he sees Valeska and the frightened Finn sitting by the campfire. Valeska immediately tries to apologize for the girl's devastating outburst, but Gideon brusquely cuts her off: apologies are worthless—the only thing that matters is that the child is unharmed. When Valeska reveals her plan and begs him to guide them as a scout through the deadly borderlands, Gideon recognizes the bitter reality: without him, the cleric and the fragile girl would be torn to pieces in the wasteland within hours. Driven by the vow to never let anyone die again, he agrees. As the first rays of sunlight break through the trees, he relentlessly drives them to move out—because the night at the border belongs to the monsters. ---------------Lyrics-------------- [Intro: Quiet slow melancholy acoustic guitar, low warm bass drone, weary breathing] [Verse 1: Spoken, exhausted and deeply raspy, very close to the mic, tired and intimate] The smell of pine... damp earth and cold sweat. I open my eyes, my throat dry as dust. I remember the flash... the violet heat... the timber coming down. Then nothing. Just the weight of the dark. I touch my chest, where the burning wood crushed my ribs— It’s whole. Healed. Just a faint silver sting in the skin. Across the glowing coals, I see them. The pale priest and the shivering kid, whispering in the gray fog. [Pre-Chorus: Melancholic buildup, slow-tempo heavy acoustic-electric transition, somber guitars] The priest looks up, she starts to speak, Words of regret, trying to explain the freak. "She didn't mean to, the panic was too deep..." But I raise my heavy hand, and I cut her cheap. [Chorus: Heavy Drop, slow-tempo crushing Doom Groove, deeply melancholic but powerful, tired clean-grit vocals] Save your apologies! Save your regret! The house is gone and the price has been met! If the kid is breathing, if her heart still beats, I don't care about the wood on the streets! I don't need your prayers, I don't need your grace, Just another scar on a broken face! [Verse 2: Heavy dragging Sludge rhythm, very somber, slow and steady beat, gravelly weary vocals] She tells me the tale, why they hunted the Ghost, To cross the Great Wall, to the dead outer coast. She begs for a guide, for my blade and my eyes... I look at the two of them under these skies. A defiled priest, a child made of glass— The borderland would grind them to dust and to ash. If I turn my back, if I walk away now, They’ll die in the mud, and I know why and how. I lost my squad to the teeth of the wild— I won't let the beasts feed on a priest and a child! [Bridge: Quiet dark country acoustic guitar, low intimate whisper, warm but distant] You're fools to go where the shadows never sleep... Too stubborn to turn back, too proud to weep. I am no hero, I’m the monster in the dark— But I’ll lead you through the hell, and I will leave my mark. [Outro: Heavy slow-tempo march, weary determination, clean electric guitar solo layered with acoustic warmth] [Spoken, calm, deeply weary but commanding tone] The fog is lifting. Look east. The sun is cutting the canopy like a cold blade. Douse the fire. Pack the leather. Daylight is short, and the border is cruel. When the sun goes down, the predators rule. Move. [Heavy warm drum hit] [Acoustic guitar outro fades out]
