[Verse 1] I sat down at the table, thought I owned the night Devil smiled across the felt, soft as candlelight He said boy you look certain, but certainty is thin Every demon loves a gambler who thinks he’s bound to win [Pre Chorus] Had a full house burning, pride like a firebrand But pride is just the marker he places in your hand [Chorus] Never play poker with the devil You think you’re winning till you fold Hubris whispers you’re invincible But that’s the lie you’ve been sold Take nothing for granted my brothers In the shadows he already planned You cannot beat evil at its own game When you’re staring at the liar’s hand [Verse 2] He pulled a card from nowhere, grinned behind his grin Said hope is just a wager when you never look within Fear stacked up the chips, doubt shuffled through the deck Temptation tapped my shoulder, cold breath on my neck [Pre Chorus] I thought my luck was golden, but illusions wear thin A false light is the first step to letting darkness in [Chorus] Never play poker with the devil You think you’re set but you’re undone You fight your battles with bravado But the demons think they’ve already won Take nothing for granted my sisters Every bluff has a reprimand You cannot beat evil at its own game When you’re staring at the liar’s hand [Bridge] Envy dealt the river Anger raised the stakes Greed whispered call him Till your very soul breaks Without salvation’s shelter Without truth to withstand You will lose every time To the liar’s hand [Chorus] Never play poker with the devil He’ll make you think you hold control But without redemption you’ve got nothing No ace to guard your soul Take nothing for granted my friends He waits for the foolish and the grand You cannot beat evil at its own game When you’re staring at the liar’s hand [Outro] I laid my cards down slowly Walked away from where I’d stand Only grace can break the table Only truth beats the liar’s hand
