Intro (stomping boots, crowd clapping) Ooh, ooh—do you hear me now? [Verse 1] Bare feet hangin’ out that old Ford door Dirt road dust, laughin’ just a little more Boots thumpin’ steady on this here beat She tosses me a look – says, “Life’s pretty sweet” Radio turned up, she’s singin’ wild and free That summer air, and her right here with me We was tryin’, oh we was tryin’ (yeah, we was tryin’) [Pre-Chorus] Half a tank left, and a world to chase Just you and me, and the whole damn town Feelin’ every moment, hoping it wouldn't end [Chorus] We was trying (trying!) Hands out the window, love in the wind We was trying (trying!) Making promises we could never end ‘Round and ‘round that Friday night fire Running on hope and a little desire We was flying, We was trying – hearts on fire [Verse 2] She stole my cap, she smiled, turned the bill to the back just daring me to take it back Writing forever in dust on my dash Her voice a spark begging mine to match Bare feet tangled in the backseat Everything in rhythm, heart skips a beat We was trying, oh we was trying (oh, we was trying) [Pre-Chorus] Sun sinking low but we don’t care Chasing down trouble like we belonged there, Fingers in my hair, secrets in the air All the right kind of wrong [Chorus] We was trying (trying!) Hands out the window, love in the wind We was trying (trying!) Making promises we could never end ‘Round and ‘round that Friday night fire Running on hope and a little desire We was flying, We was trying – hearts on fire [Bridge] Might’ve been reckless, but man it felt real Chasing forever on four worn wheels If it lasted or not, I’ll never tire We was trying – hearts on fire (hearts on fire) [Chorus] We was trying (trying!) Laughing at nothing, kissing in the rain We was trying (trying!) Tattooed that summer on my runaway brain We was flying, We was trying – hearts on fire [Outro] Yeah, we was trying – hearts on fire (hearts on fire… hearts on fire…) Yeah, we was trying (crowd chant, clapping) Ooh—do you hear me now? Ooh—do you hear me now?
