Wild West Wind 1

O wild West Wind, Autumn's fierce breath, Drive dead leaves like ghosts in flight, Chariot seeds to winter's cold death— Till Spring's azure call ignites life bright. Destroyer, preserver, hear my plea! Clouds shed like leaves from sky and sea, Storm's locks rage from horizon high, Dirge of the year, black rain, fire, hail—cry! Awake the blue sea from summer's dream, Quiver old towers in waves' gleam, Atlantic chasms cleave below, Oozy woods tremble, gray with fear's glow. If I were leaf, cloud, wave to share thy might, Unchained from thorns where I bleed in night— Tameless spirit, swift and proud! Make me thy lyre, though leaves fall low, Tumult's harmonies in autumn's tone, Be thou me, fierce one! Drive thoughts to sow New birth—scatter words like sparks unknown. Trumpet prophecy through my lips unbound: If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
