They Said, He Said

They said He said They said He said They called Him one thing He said something else They said He said You heard what they said Now hear Him for yourself Heard the talk Same story passed down Same old claim Keep circlin' back 'round Read past the caption Context changed the whole thing Clipped Him to a fraction Then reacted to the framing You heard about Him Did you hear Him when He spoke? Whole story get distorted When you cut it for a quote They said He said They called Him one thing He said something else They said He said You heard what they said Now hear Him for yourself “Prove it then” Like He owe you a show Like truth gotta move Every time that you say so Want fire on cue Want the sky split wide Saw the signs, saw the works Still found reasons to deny Same question, new day Different feed, same play “If He really is God...” Then the goalpost slides away Truth get close Then the line gets moved Maybe proof ain't the problem When nothing counts as proof Who told you who He is? Who told you what He meant? Did you hear it from the crowd? Or did you hear it from Him? They said He said Same name Different claim They said He said Now what you gonna do with that? Who told you that? Who said it first? You heard what they said Now hear His words I heard enough Had to face it myself No borrowed belief No hand-me-down doubt Read it slow Let the red letters sit Whole thing hit different When I quit skimming it Kept my questions Didn't fake being sure But His words kept pressing Couldn't brush 'em off anymore Heard what they said Then I heard what He meant Came back locked in Can't unhear what He said They said He said They called Him one thing He said something else They said He said You heard what they said Now hear Him for yourself They said He said Same name Different claim They said He said You heard what they said Now what you gonna do with that? They said He said
