Lyrics based on a poem by Jane Taylor (1806) Added verse 3 and bridge: Artanne Musical Arrangement: Artanne Audio upload: https://suno.com/s/xhvfRVK249rbZYpL Voice based on my own voice Cover Art: Artanne © Artanne - All rights reserved. Down in a green and shady bed A modest violet grew; Its stalk was bent, it hung its head, As if to hide from view. And yet it was a lovely flower, Its colors bright and fair; It might have graced a rosy bower, Instead of hiding there. Yet there it was content to bloom, In modest tints arrayed; And there diffused a sweet perfume, Within the silent shade. The rose may show her elegance, For everyone to see, The violet shies away from glance, It does not long for visibility. How often I have longed for praise, Like the rose in sunlit bed. To meet with an admirer’s gaze, And never bow my head. Then let me to the valley go, This pretty flower to see; That I may also learn to grow In sweet humility. © Artanne - 2026
